PREFACE
There are people who write in order to make a living. I live to write. The explanation of my unusual purpose in life is, I think, that I hate unnecessary suffering and believe there is a chance that by writing I can help to reduce it. Some people become hospital volunteers for the reason that leads me to write.
Something is wrong with our world. Very wrong. Fundamentally wrong. That it is extremely difficult to think out and put into words exactly what it is that is so fundamentally wrong is part and parcel of the problem. It is, however, necessary to make the effort and to put it into words. Otherwise our efforts to help will be blind.
